KARL Robinson has renewed his call for mandatory coronavirus testing after Oxford United's game against Crewe Alexandra was called off 35 minutes before kick-off.

A positive test in the visitors' squad has been confirmed by the club.

United believe Crewe were aware of the result this morning, but the first Robinson heard about an issue was after the away side had arrived at the Kassam Stadium, just after 1.30pm.

A long discussion on the pitch followed, before Crewe advised the EFL they could not fulfil the game, which was officially postponed at 2.25pm.

Robinson urged this week about the return of routine testing for EFL clubs, which as things stand is not enforced.

United made headlines last week when their team bus was immobilised by a sanitiser spray on the way to Accrington Stanley, but this was different - and the head coach argued would continue to disrupt the fixture list until there was a change.

He said: "Last week we had a laugh and a joke over the sanitiser, but this is not a laugh and a joke.

"This is taking people’s lives and putting them at risk."

He added: "I spoke on Thursday calling for more help, but this is going to keep biting us on the bum.

"If we’re asked to go and perform, somebody has to take responsibility for blanket testing, consistently."

United's players will now be tested, with the club footing the bill, as a precaution.

Niall McWilliams, the U's managing director, said: "My opinion is it wasn’t safe to play the game.

"The rules are grey, but at Oxford United we’re very much black and white with it. We do not and will not take any chances."
