BRADLEY Smith claimed his first points finish for three races as he crossed the line 13th at a chaotic Emilia Romagna Grand Prix.

The Forest Hill rider added to his tally for the season simply by virtue of staying on the road, with eight of his counterparts failing to reach the chequered flag.

Those who retired included his Aprilia teammate Aleix Espargaro and long-time race leader Francesco Bagnaia, whose unfortunate crash handed victory to Maverick Vinales.

Smith kept out of trouble as chaos ensued during the opening laps, with KTM’s Brad Binder crashing at the turn 14 hairpin and Valentino Rossi forced to throw in the towel after sliding out at turn four.

The 29-year-old’s three points moved him to 11 for the season, although he remains 19th in the riders’ championship.

He is back in action at the Catalan Grand Prix next weekend.
