SEAN Clare will be kept waiting for his Oxford United debut until next week.

The right back is suspended for Saturday's Carabao Cup first round tie against AFC Wimbledon.

It is a hangover from last season, when he collected two bookings in the William Hill Scottish Cup while playing for Hearts.

United have confirmed a one-game ban applies this weekend.

Boss Karl Robinson said: "Sean’s suspended because of something that happened in one of the cup competitions in Scotland.

"Weirdly, if you got suspended in our FA Cup you’d be eligible to play in Scotland."

That would mean Sam Long plays this weekend, while Clare is due to get his first run-out in the EFL Trophy against Chelsea Under 21s next Tuesday.

The pair have played an almost identical number of minutes in pre-season as they battle for the full back spot.

Robinson said: "We’ve picked two teams.

"We already know the team for Chelsea, everyone knows where they’re at for the next four or five days."

Jamie Hanson is the only player ruled out through injury, with a calf problem expected to rule the midfielder out for three or four weeks.
