MATTY Taylor says he is happy to pass on his experience to help Oxford United’s younger players develop.

The striker has been with the club for 12 months, making his loan move from Bristol City permanent in July.

But he is now one of the older heads in the squad, especially with Jamie Mackie retiring earlier this summer.

And Taylor sees his role as being more than just what he can deliver individually during games.

“I’m 30 now, unfortunately,” he said.

“I probably am one of the senior players.

“Mous (club captain John Mousinho) and Jamo (James Henry) are more of the voices in the changing room.

“But one-to-one if I can give any advice and help to the young lads I will do.

“We have a good mix and all of the signings have impressed everyone.

“They’re all very athletic as well, which is half the battle in this league.”

One of those looking to pick Taylor’s brains is Dan Agyei.

They bring completely different strengths to the forward line, but the 23-year-old believes that is exactly why last season’s top scorer can be so good for his game.

Agyei said: “It’s always good to have a variety of different players.

“I look at Tayls and see the stuff he does. I try to bring that into my game as well.

“He’s one of the best at this level at poaching and being a fox in the box.

“I think that’s something I need to add to my game.

“I’m constantly watching how he does it and try to bring it into my game.”
