DAN Agyei is aiming to continue his upward trajectory with Oxford United - and two goals in pre-season can only help the forward's confidence.

The 23-year-old bagged a double in the 5-0 friendly victory against Banbury United yesterday.

Having struggled to make an impact early in his U's career after signing from Burnley 12 months ago, the pacy front man was beginning to make strides in the spring.

Two of his three goals last season came in the month before Sky Bet League One was suspended for coronavirus.

But now Agyei is looking to pick up where he left off.

"I’m really pleased," he said. "I felt like I should have scored on Friday (in the 4-0 win against Woking) as well, but to score two is going to give me confidence.

"When I came to the club I had an injury and it was quite hard to knock that off.

"I probably got going towards the end of that year.

"Then I felt in the new year I was starting to do well and then corona happened.

"Then after lockdown I continued to do well, so hopefully I can maintain that and hit a mark at the start of the season."

Agyei has also been buoyed by the business United have done this summer.

As well as bringing back Matty Taylor and Liam Kelly, their new recruits have included Sean Clare and Marcus McGuane, along with Cameron Brannagan committing himself to a new contract.

Agyei said: "I think the club are doing really well this summer.

"We’ve kept Cam and I think that will be big for us. We’ve signed Sean, Marcus, Kells has come back.

"I think it’s looking really promising."
