OLLY Huggins raced into the last-16 of the English Amateur Championships.

The Frilford Heath golfer claimed a 6&4 victory against George Holland at Woodhall Spa in Lincolnshire.

It sent him into the third knockout round today, where he will take on Jack Cope for a place in the quarter-finals.

Just as in his first round success, Huggins won the first hole to take control immediately.

Holland squared the match at the fourth, but could do nothing as his opponent rattled off wins at the next three holes.

The lead was trimmed to two up at the turn, but again Huggins found another gear.

Wins at the tenth and 11th put him four holes clear and in the heat Holland wilted.

Victory at the 13th meant a result was only a matter of time and a concession at the next hole wrapped up a fine success.

Huggins fared better than fellow Frilford member Eddie Pepperell, who withdrew from the Hero Open.

His four-over par opening round at the Forest of Arden left the world No 89 needing a miracle to make the cut.

Pepperell had predicted going into this run of European Tour events he would struggle for motivation with no crowds allowed if he was off the pace.

And he opted not to play yesterday’s second round.
