HORSPATH fought back in terrific fashion to secure an 11-run win at home to Thame Town in their opening Bernard Tollett Oxfordshire Cup group game.

Defending 133-4 with Dwadesh Sehgal hitting an unbeaten 52 in the 18-over contest after electing to bat, Horspath looked up against it as Will Sutcliffe blasted 63 to take Thame to 101-1.

But then Horspath skipper Lloyd Belcher (2-10) ended his Thame counterpart’s 44-ball knock with the last delivery of the 14th over and the hosts took charge with the visitors falling short on 122-7.

MP Sports Academy in Thame beat hosts Tiddington by three wickets in Pool 2’s other fixture.

Zargham Ali took 3-6 as Tiddington were restricted to 114-8 from their 18 overs, Archie Davis hitting 29 not out.

A 63-run third-wicket partnership between Gus Kennedy (30) and Sammy Bin Ashraf set the away side up for a successful chase.

Akeel Khan weighed in with an unbeaten 29 from 18 balls to get them over the line inside the final over.

Sandford St Martin beat visitors Bicester & North Oxford by four wickets in Pool 1.

After winning the toss, Bicester’s openers put on 49 for the first wicket.

Matt Chilton made 39, but the middle order crumbled as Sandford’s sharp fielding forced three run outs and the away side finished on 115-8.

Skipper Chris Thompson’s 41 was key in the reply, which got them to 116-6 with four balls remaining.

Pool 4 gets under way tonight, when Oxford host Oxenford (6pm).
