DIDCOT Town have ended their long wait to start building the squad for next season.

The Railwaymen confirmed a batch of five players who have all played for the club before.

Goalkeeper Leigh Bedwell will be back between the sticks, while former Oxford United youngster Seth Humphries has also returned in midfield.

Young defender George Gilmore will be targeting a first full campaign at senior level, having stepped up from the club’s development side last season.

Joining them are two players who are returning for second spells.

Striker George Jeacock, another to come through the U’s academy, and midfielder Sam Barder have signed up after playing at Thatcham Town.

Boss Jamie Heapy said: “George and Sam were my two main targets to get on board this season.

“We kept a close eye on them both last year at a very good Thatcham side who were on top of the league when Covid-19 ended the season.

“Both have been at the club before and will fit in straight away into the

group.

“I think everyone could see where we were lacking last year and bringing George in shows our intent on putting that right.

“Sam we know gives his heart and soul week-in, week-out and leaves everything on the pitch, they are two big signings for us and delighted to bring them back.”

Thame United’s recruitment has also gathered pace in the last few days.

Following on from skipper Ben Sturgess and striker Dan West, another four have put pen to paper.

Reigning player of the season Greg Hackett, Calvin Evans, Matt Peake-Pijnen and goalkeeper Chris Rackley are all on board for the Red Kites.
