TIM Griffiths has become Wantage Town’s third signing of the week.

The experienced goalkeeper will be the BetVictor Southern League Division 1 Central club’s

first-choice stopper for the 2020/21 season.

Griffiths, who spent a lengthy spell out injured last year, has played for several clubs in Oxfordshire and the surrounding counties, including Chipping Sodbury, Witney United, Cheltenham Saracens and Bishops Cleeve.

He follows new captain Olly Goddard and midfielder Tom Ballard to the Alfredians, who were rock-bottom of the table with just four points from 28 games when the season was halted in March due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Matt Biddle’s side were given an opportunity to put 2019/20 behind them when all results were expunged and the goalkeeper is looking forward to playing his part.

He said: “To have this chance to play football again at this standard after a long-term injury last year is a privilege and I can’t wait to get started.

“The lads that have already been brought in look to be some serious signings and I personally can’t wait to see what they can do.

“As a club, Wantage have a point to prove this season and I’m excited to be a part of this challenge.”

A club statement added: “Tim was a key name that was identified by the management team.

“Having kept him under the radar from other clubs, we are over the moon to have secured his services.

“He is a commanding and composed goalkeeper and one who will give a lot of trust to the players in front of him.”
