THE financial strains brought on by the coronavirus suspension have been shown at another of Oxford United’s fellow clubs in Sky Bet League One.

AFC Wimbledon have released a statement asking season ticket holders if they would consider not claiming a refund for the remaining games.

It follows Nigel Clough stepping down at Burton Albion along with two of his backroom staff in order to save other jobs.

The EFL’s board are expected to meet today, with a variety of matters again on the agenda, including ways to break the deadlock in League One.

Clubs are expected to hold another conference call before the weekend, ten weeks on from the initial suspension.

The one area which seems certain is any games which are played this summer will be behind closed doors.

Wimbledon still had four matches left at Kingsmeadow.

They announced yesterday several fans had come forward to make it clear they would not be seeking a refund.

And they have requested others follow suit to help.

The club’s statement read: “Without question, it will be the best possible way of helping us maintain our club’s financial stability.

“Naturally, we entirely understand that some of you have suffered considerable financial hardship and, of course, we will fully respect your right to a refund should you fall into that category.”
