ROSS Miller has become the first player to sign for new Oxford City Stars coach Dean Birrell.

The netminder picked up three titles at the club’s end of season awards and is a key piece of the puzzle as they look to build a new squad.

But Jake Florey and Alex Staples have moved on, after agreeing terms elsewhere.

Miller though had no doubts about re-signing.

The Welshman, who was named player of the season by the coach, fans and media, said: “I couldn’t have enjoyed my time in Oxford any more than last season and I’m delighted to be retained.

“This season is going to be a tough challenge, as there are some strong clubs in the league, but I know myself and the boys will be ready for it.”

Birrell added: “While I haven’t seen Ross play, he comes highly recommended by everyone at the club.

“He is a great character and in addition to talent has the right attitude and work ethic which is exactly what I expect.

“Picking up three awards for his performances is quite something and we’re delighted to have secured him for another season.

“I know other clubs were interested in Ross after his performances last season, so it speaks volumes for the club that he didn’t hesitate to re-sign.”
