FORMER England captain Andrew Strauss will be the guest of honour when Aston Rowant hold a virtual festival later this month.

The ECB’s ex-director of cricket, who attended Radley College, has agreed to a Q&A session at the event, which will be held entirely on video conferencing app Zoom.

Proceeds from the festival and silent auction will be split between the club and the Ruth Strauss Foundation, which funds research into rare lung cancers and provides support to families affected by the disease.

Held on Sunday, May 24 from 6pm, it will also feature live music and finish with a DJ set by Jack Savidge from Friendly Fires.

Joshua Smith, Rowant’s first team captain, said: “Since our beer festival has been cancelled, we had to come up with something else and so the virtual festival was born.

“It’s amazing to be supporting the Ruth Strauss Foundation as part of it and we’d love as much support from the Oxfordshire community to make the event a success.

“With not much else in everybody’s social calendars, this will definitely be a highlight of the bank holiday.”

Earlier in the afternoon there will also be beer, wine and gin tasting masterclasses.

Those interested can order in advance and have the drinks shipped to their home to enjoy on the day.

Tickets for the main festival are limited and priced at £10, follow this link for more information.
