NATHAN Holland's loan at Oxford United has been wiped out by a torn hamstring.

The 21-year-old sustained the damage last weekend, when he was forced off 40 minutes into the 3-2 win at Shrewsbury Town.

Holland, who had scored three goals in 12 appearances since joining on loan in January, is due back at parent club West Ham United today for assessment.

The winger has had hamstring issues in the past and missed the Southend game last month due to a tightness in the muscle.

U's head coach Karl Robinson said: "Nathan’s torn his hamstring quite severely.

"He sent a lovely text last night to myself and the players.

"We wish him all the luck in the world now in his recovery.

"He’s shown he’s going to be a good player.

"After losing Shandon (Baptiste) and Tariqe (Fosu) we felt we’d filled a void there, but this will be a big hit to us."

The injury is severe enough that Holland would not be available, even if United reached the Sky Bet League One play-offs.

But Robinson will keep tabs on the highly-rated attacker and did not rule out making another attempt to sign him.

He said: "You just don’t know what might happen next year.

"He will be one I’ll be watching closely moving forward.

"If you speak to any of the young players who come here I think they feel it’s a good place to learn and become better people, first and foremost, then secondly as a player.

"We hope our paths may cross again."
