ELLIOTT Moore will travel separately to the Oxford United squad today in case he has to make a quick getaway.

His partner is expecting their first child, with the due date set for next Saturday.

It is a tense time for the centre back, particularly with United spending today and tomorrow 120 miles away for the game at Shrewsbury Town.

“I think it will be one where we both don’t want it to interfere with football, but that’s life,” he said.

“When they do happen we’ll have a talk and see what’s best for me, my partner and the baby.”

On top of his own transport this weekend, Moore is set to have more flexibility in his training schedule from next week to allow extra time at home.

But the 22-year-old admitted they had not worked out what would happen if the call came during a game.

He said: “I’ve no idea, it all depends on how far along she is.

“I want to be there for my first child. Football is massive in my life but family does come first.

“I just hope it doesn’t happen on that day, but if it does it’s something I’ll have to deal with.”

In the meantime, Moore’s focus will be on making the most of his big chance in a United side who will start the weekend just a point outside the Sky Bet League One play-off places.

An injury to John Mousinho has seen the defender start the last five games, his best run of the season.

The U’s have conceded just twice in that time and the summer signing from Leicester City is aiming to keep that run going at Shrewsbury.

He said: “I’m loving it. I just want to play and now I am it’s great to be a part of it.

“I had to bide my time a little bit at the start of the season.

“I wasn’t knocking on the gaffer’s door every week, because I knew what Mous and Rob (Dickie) were doing. They were brilliant.

“I feel for Mous getting injured, but I had the same problem when I got injured with my back.

“Mous took his opportunity and hopefully I take mine now to stay in the team and be a part of hopefully some success at the end of the season.”
