OXFORD United’s ‘respectful’ approach goes some way to explaining their disciplinary record this season, says boss Karl Robinson.

The U’s head to Shrewsbury Town tomorrow without a red card in 50 games since their last visit to Shropshire.

They are also the only team in Sky Bet League One yet to have a player dismissed this season.

With such fine margins at stake in the promotion race, keeping 11 men on the pitch will be vital in the run-in.

Robinson was pleased with the record, but felt it was important to retain an edge – something perhaps illustrated by the U’s having picked up the fourth most bookings in the division.

He said: “We’ll always have red cards, it’s part of the game.

“The way Alex (Gorrin) tackles sometimes we have been on the edge in those 50 games, but we do stay calm.

“I do think we don’t get carried away with the referee as much anymore.

“I think we’re very respectful to the opposition, always.

“If we make a mistake we apologise for that. We’re in a good place and those type of stats prove that.

“Behind the calmness there’s a ruthless edge.

“I think if you look at the games we’re aggressive in everything we do.”
