KARL Robinson was thrilled Oxford United were able to pull off a fine victory at Ipswich Town which got them closer to the play-off places.

Matty Taylor provided the finishing touch to a fine 44th-minute move, which proved the difference in a 1-0 win.

It was only United's second win at Portman Road in ten visits and trimmed the gap to the top-six to three points.

The head coach said: "I’d never thought I’d lead a team here and win that way.

"These are moments as managers you really do appreciate. I will remember this, I really will.

"Against the might of Ipswich we’ve managed to do a bit of a job and that’s really pleasing."

Taylor goal took him to 14 for the season - and four in the last four games.

Robinson said: "When you get him the ball he scores goals.

"He’s one of those people you love to have around, because he has that capability of nicking a goal."

He added: "We know we have gifted players and on the turnovers we can exploit the opposition.

"Matty should have scored his better chance in the second half and we had three or four good chances in that spell we didn’t take.

"They will rue some good chances in the first half.

"You know you’re going to come here and need to ride your luck at certain stages to get a result.

"I’m really pleased and I can’t ask any more from my players."
