OXFORD Hawks had a terrific weekend with big wins for their top sides.

The men moved out of the bottom two with a thrilling 6-5 victory at title challengers Havant in the EHL Division 1 South.

Ed Tristem scored the decisive 11th goal in a wet and wild clash on the south coast influenced by Storm Dennis.

After falling behind early on, Jack Biggs equalised.

But two slips were punished to give Havant a 3-1 lead, which was then cancelled out by half-time thanks to Ted Bennett and Andy Watts, who pounced on rebounds to score past Poland international goalkeeper Maciej Pacanowski.

Havant struck the first blow of the second half, but a Jack Biggs penalty was followed by Freddie Smith putting Hawks in front for the first time.

Again the lead did not last long, but ten minutes from time Tristem struck the winner to lift them to seventh.

Hawks climbed to third in the Women’s Conference West with an emphatic 5-1 triumph at leaders Surbiton 2nd.

Claire Werlinger deflected in Emily Smith’s shot to open the scoring in the second quarter.

The home side drew level before half-time and pushed hard to take the lead after the break.

But after weathering the storm, Hawks hit back in style.

Caro Harris edged them in front, before Werlinger’s second of the game gave the visitors breathing space.

Sam Jacobs and Bex Oakes added gloss to the scoreline in the fourth quarter.

Zum Akhter bagged a hat-trick in a fantastic second half for Oxford OBU.

All their goals in a 5-0 success at Henley came after the interval, with Richie Heywood bagging a brace for the South League Premier Division 2 West title challengers.

Katie Gatt scored twice as Witney Ladies won 4-2 at London Wayfarers.

The skipper scored the game’s first and last goals, which both came from short corners.

Emily Dove and Sadie Lapper were also on target to keep Witney third in Division 1 of the South League.

Division 2 leaders Oxford Ladies got back to form with a 3-1 victory at basement side Woking.

Kim Warman gave them a lead in the first half and although Woking equalised, Rachael Lammey and Amelia Baron sealed the points.
