MIKE Ford says Ravi Shamsi has Banbury United’s ‘100 per cent backing’ after the player was allegedly racially abused during last weekend’s 1-0 defeat at Royston Town.

The Hertfordshire club have launched an investigation into the incident, which led to a home spectator being removed from the ground.

Ford said: “In my years as a manager, I’ve never experienced anything like it.

“It was not at all nice, but it’s in the hands of people to find out exactly what happened.

“Ravi has shown a great deal of maturity towards the situation and we will support him 100 per cent.

“It was a horrible position for him to be put in.

“Non-league football is all about putting smiles on faces, and this just wasn’t acceptable in any way.”

Banbury host BetVictor Southern League Premier Central leaders Bromsgrove Sporting tomorrow, with ex-Oxford City midfielder Lewis Wilson set to feature after his move from Stratford Town.

Wilson, 26, has a wealth of non-league experience, which also includes spells at Kettering, St Neots Town, Arlesey Town, AFC Rushden & Diamonds and Cambridge City.

Ford added: “Lewis is an attacking wide player, who can play up front or at the back.

"We’ve got a very versatile player who will bring good experience to the side.”

Lee Henderson should return from injury against a side who Banbury beat earlier this season.

The Banbury boss added: “Bromsgrove should hold no fear for us. We’re playing a very good side, but we’ve shown that we are capable of beating them, and I’m expecting a good game and a big crowd.”

There is an Oxfordshire derby in Division 1 Central as Didcot Town entertain Thame United.

Didcot have doubts over Jack Longford (thigh) and Jack Powell (Achilles), but Ollie Thomas is set to return.

The Railwaymen were beaten at St Neots Town last weekend, a game which boss Jamie Heapy believes they did not deserve to lose.

He said: “It was tough to take, because I felt we deserved more.

“We’re just not getting the rub of the green at the moment, but I can’t fault my players’ attitudes.”

Play-off chasing Thame were edged out 1-0 by high-flying Halesowen in midweek, but remain sixth.

Boss Mark West said: “We played really well at Halesowen, and to lose late on was gutting to be honest.

“We’d hit the bar, and created loads of chances, but it wasn’t to be.

“Didcot will be tough. I don’t think we’ve ever won there.

“It’s a derby game, so that always adds a bit of spice.”

Carl Davies (ankle) is a doubt, while Dan West (knee) and Callum Mapley (hamstring) will be assessed before the game.

Kidlington go to Kempston Rovers without a point under Ben Sadler, but the new boss has nonetheless been encouraged by his side’s attitude since taking over earlier this month.

The Oxfordshire side have lost both games under Sadler, including last weekend’s narrow 2-1 defeat at Biggleswade.

Sadler said: “Last Saturday we played really well for large periods of the match without ever really forcing their goalkeeper into making a vital save.

“The game was very even and it’s now important that we learn quickly from that game and get a point or ideally three on the board as quickly as possible.

“Our away record certainly does need addressing and ideally that will start this Saturday.”

He added: “I’ve been really pleased with the effort and willingness from the players to buy into what we are asking them to do here.”

“A new training venue has been sorted and this will help us work on our style of play.”

New signing Billy Gillett comes in, while captain Tommy Castle, Tommy Franklin and Aaron Morton are all available.

Wantage Town entertain Bedworth United without Owen Shaw (dislocated toe), Ross Roberts (ankle and knee), Jared Jones and Sean McKeon (both unavailable), but Dan James and Trevor Mutero could return.

Boss Matt Biddle said: “Last weekend at Berkhamsted was always going to be difficult, with them fighting for top spot.

"We did create chances, but there’s no doubt Berkhamsted deserved the win and showed more quality than us.”

Meanwhile, North Leigh visit Yaxley, looking to build on last weekend’s thrilling 5-4 victory at Bedford Town.
