Oxford City Stars captain Josh Florey has thanked fans for sticking with the team during a tough run of results.
Stars were thrashed 11-2 at in-form Invicta Dynamos on Sunday, as the club’s injury and illness issues continued.
They were forced to play without forwards Mike Whillock, Matt Lawday, Dax Hedges and David Manning, while Sam Shone suffered a shoulder injury.
It left the team heavily depleted, but Florey insisted the squad was desperate for a change of fortunes.
He said: “It was a disappointing night for the Stars and the travelling support who had made the long away journey.
“As a team we recognise our disappointing recent performances.
“It’s not something we take lightly, and we are working hard to improve on both scores and performances.
Florey added: “It’s huge for us to have such great support no matter what the score.”
Invicta edged a close first period 2-0, before stepping up a gear as the match wore on.
Joe Edwards and Jake Williams scored for Stars, who face leaders Streatham Redhawks at Oxpens on Sunday (6.15pm).
