KARL Robinson hopes Oxford United’s lucrative Emirates FA Cup replay can have an impact on what he can do before the transfer window closes on Friday.

His team produced another magnificent display to hold Premier League side Newcastle United to a 0-0 draw.

It came in front of 52,221 fans at St James’ Park, which will mean a six-figure sum for the U’s from their share of the gate receipts.

And that income will increase from what is likely to be a full house at the Kassam Stadium next week, while it has a strong case for being televised.

The third round replays netted a broadcast fee of £72,000.

Robinson is due to discuss plans for the final days of the window with chairman Sumrith Thanakarnjanasuth – and the extra revenue strengthens his case when it comes to recruitment.

He said: “Hopefully we can now take stock.

“We have a board meeting on Monday and (we can) try to bring some more players into our squad.

“You’d like to think it would be on TV because of how great their fans are, it will be viewed very well.

“And we hope that will give us a bit more of a windfall. We’ll have another full house.”

He added: “We’ll see where we are financially, because this might just change one or two things.”

The result puts United into the fifth round draw tonight alongside the Magpies, who will not be relishing the return trip.

Robinson’s men have already thrashed West Ham and given Manchester City a good game on home turf in their run to the Carabao Cup quarter-finals.

The U’s head coach said: “It’s not bad is it, to play three Premier League teams?

“We beat one 4-0, we got beaten by the champions of England when we were probably the better team in the second half and now we’ve just held Newcastle at St James’ Park.”

The underdogs had two big chances to win the game in the closing stages, when other sides at their level might have been looking to run down the clock and hold on for a replay.

“That’s not our style,” Robinson said.

“I think a lot of the 52,000 people here will come out of the stadium and think ‘that team in yellow aren’t bad’.

“That’s what I want, for people to understand we’ve got a bit about us. We leave here very happy men.”
