EDDIE Pepperell has work to do tomorrow to make the cut at the South African Open after dropping three shots late in his first round.

The Abingdon golfer, playing in his first event of 2020, carded a two-over par round of 73 at Randpark near Johannesburg.

It left him in a share of 187th place at the tournament which is played across two courses, 11 shots behind leader Johannes Veerman.

Pepperell dropped a shot at the second, but got back to level par with a birdie at the ninth.

It began an eventful run of holes, where bogeys at the tenth and 11th were immediately followed by three successive birdies.

But his time under par was brief, due to a double bogey at the par three 15th.

Another short hole caused problems on 17, where a dropped shot saw him finish well down the field.

Pepperell’s second round starts at 6.35am tomorrow.
