THAME United climbed to seventh in BetVictor Southern League Division 1 Central with a 2-1 victory over Kempston Rovers.

Dan West’s strike five minutes from time gave the hosts all three points and a fifth straight triumph in all competitions.

The Oxfordshire side went ahead after just five minutes, Ryan Blake finishing calmly after Greg Hackett’s cross hit the bar.

They had several chances to double their lead, with Blake and Hackett continuing to look dangerous.

But Thame were made to pay two minutes before the

break when the visitors headed home an equaliser.

The hosts then almost went behind with 20 minutes remaining when a long range shot struck a post.

Just as it looked like the home side would have to settle for a point, they found a goal.

The visitors had a player down but Thame carried on, with West finding space in the box to lift an effort into the net for his ninth league goal of the season.

Didcot Town were unable to recover from an early goal as they lost 1-0 at home to Welwyn Garden City.

The visitors took the lead on five minutes, when a free kick was headed home to leave goalkeeper Leigh Bedwell stranded.

But the hosts were on top for much of the opening 45 minutes, with George Reid especially dangerous.

The Railwaymen struggled to break down a solid visiting defence in the second half, condemning them to defeat.

Thomas Castle was sent off as Kidlington lost 3-0 at

play-off chasers Bedford Town.

The defender received a straight red card for retaliating to a challenge 13 minutes into the second half, with the visitors already 1-0 down.

Bedford had opened the scoring on 39 minutes and doubled their lead shortly after the hour mark.

Another goal six minutes from time sealed the points.

Wantage Town led 1-0 at Barton Rovers but fell to a 4-1 defeat.

Samir Regragui put the visitors ahead after 22 minutes, but their opponents levelled just before the break.

Three goals in the first 16 minutes of the second half put the game beyond Wantage, who still await their first point of the season.

North Leigh’s home game against Bedworth United was washed out.

Jack Westbrook rescued a point for Banbury United at promotion rivals Coalville Town in BetVictor Southern League Premier Division Central.

Westbrook headed home with less than 20 minutes remaining as the Puritans salvaged a 1-1 draw, which sees them fall to third in the table.

The hosts had a goal ruled out for offside after just five minutes, but there was nothing wrong with the strike that put them ahead midway through the first half.

Coalville counter-attacked and the ball was switched to Tom McGlinchey, who finished coolly.

Banbury were very much in the contest but were often sloppy in possession and they remained 1-0 down as the half came to an end.

They continued to probe in the second period but could easily have found themselves further behind, with the home side missing two great chances.

Instead, it was Mike Ford’s men who struck next through Westbrook, whose header followed a scramble in the penalty area.

Banbury keeper Jack Harding was forced into a good save in the closing stages, while the visitors finished with ten men after Kynan Isaac received his second yellow card.
