SIMON Anderson hailed Oxford City Stars after they collected a first away win of the season.

A 5-2 victory at Invicta Dynamos in South Division 1 of the English National League provided much to the relief to their head coach.

“It was a great road victory where our hard efforts were fully rewarded,” he said.

“We had to weather an early storm, but I thought once we got through the early stages, we grew into the game.

“Getting the first goal was huge and gave us a good platform to build on.”

He added: “The third period was the most satisfying for me.

“We have in the past let some leads slip and had spoken about puck and game management.

“The boys’ execution of both of those things pleased me the most, it enabled us to really grind out the win.”

David Manning scored twice as Stars led 2-1 at the end of the opening period.

Dax Hedges’ powerplay goal made it 3-1 after the break, but two minutes into the final third the hosts reduced the deficit.

But Stars hit back and goals from Joe Edwards and Josh Oliver late on sealed a thrilling win.

Stars travel to Raiders on Saturday, before hosting Cardiff Fire 24 hours later.
