As with this weekend’s clash, there were four divisions between the sides and it was selected for live television coverage.
Michael Appleton picked a strong side and Alex MacDonald netted an early free-kick to settle nerves.
But they had to wait until the stroke of half-time for the lead to be doubled, via a Josh Ruffels header.

Two goals in a minute from Kane Hemmings and Tyler Roberts killed the contest with half an hour to play.
Hemmings scored again late on to set the U’s on a run which took them all the way to a fifth round tie with Middlesbrough.

There was only one division between the two sides, but the U’s got off to the perfect start when Ryan Taylor headed them into the lead.
But the hosts, managed by Danny Cowley, fought back and equalised through Kenny Davis after the break.
And United were left hanging on in the closing stages when Johnny Mullins was dismissed for a second yellow card.

Braintree failed to cash in and after taking the lead in a wind-affected replay they lost 3-1 as Patrick Hoban (2) and Liam Sercombe netted.
United went on to beat Swansea City 3-2 on their way to the fourth round.

Michael Appleton’s first season was still struggling to get off the ground and a visit to Blundell Park looked a tricky assignment.
But a decision to hand James Roberts his first start paid off handsomely.
The teenage striker curled in a beauty from 25 yards to open the scoring and tapped in his second after Callum O’Dowda’s cross was spilled.

Danny Rose crashed in a third after the break, before Shaun Pearson’s late consolation.
United lost at Tranmere Rovers in a second round replay.
