NORTH Leigh have received a huge boost after prolific striker Henry Landers re-joined the club this week.

Last season’s top scorer goes straight into the starting line-up for tomorrow’s trip to Aylesbury United in BetVictor Southern League Division 1 after returning from a brief spell with Maidenhead United.

Landers earned rave reviews at Eynsham Park last season with a string of spectacular goals, and joint boss Craig Dore was delighted to announce his return.

He said: “It’s a massive boost for the club. Henry is one of the most talented players at this level, and he was a real favourite with us last year.

“He wasn’t enjoying his time at Maidenhead, and we’ve been keeping in touch, and he was really keen to come back to us.”

Landers, who is 19, netted more than 20 goals for struggling North Leigh last season, and his return will boost the team’s play-off aspirations.

Dore added: “He’s still a young lad and I’ve got no doubt he will go on to a higher level again.

“I want to see him playing at the best level he can, but if we can get a couple of years out of him, that will be great for us.”

Thame United boss Mark West is scratching his head for a goalkeeper to replace the banned Craig Hill ahead of their trip to Yaxley.

The stopper was sent off in last week’s 2-1 FA Trophy defeat to Frome Town, triggering a three-match suspension.

West said: “We’re looking to sign a keeper on loan, but at the moment, we haven’t got any ideas.

“I guess all we’ve got to do is keep the ball at the other end.”

Dan West is doubtful with an ankle injury, while Lynton Goss (quad) is likely to be out until the new year.

Didcot Town are still without several key men as they host Barton Rovers after a week off.

Josh Pin is out for up to eight weeks with a hip injury and Lewis Hayden, Seth Humphries and George Nash are all major doubts with ankle problems, although Mark Bell returns.

Boss Jamie Heapy said: “Having no game last weekend has hopefully refreshed the players, and they’ve trained well and worked hard.”

Wantage Town also return from a week off as they bid to pick up their first point of the season against Biggleswade at Alfredian Park.

Club captain Chris Jackson has retired from football, with Jimmy Glover taking over as skipper.

Joint manager Matt Biddle said: “I wanted to pay tribute to Chris for his commitment at Wantage, leading the team to promotion and cup victories.

“He’s been a pleasure to manage and work with and he should be extremely proud of his achievements.”

Dan James (knee) remains side-lined.

Kidlington face a tricky test as they travel to high-flying Corby Town.

In Premier Division Central, Banbury United boss Mike Ford wants his team to put Tuesday’s FA Trophy defeat to Rushden & Diamonds behind them at Lowestoft Town.

Victory could see the Puritans go top of the table, but Ford admitted his side looked fatigued in midweek.

He said: “It’s a long trip to Lowestoft and we’ve had to juggle the team recently with injuries and suspensions. We’ve had a lot of individuals missing, that’s not excuses, that’s facts.

“Sometimes that leaves a bit of uncertainty on the pitch.”

Jack Westbrook is unavailable, but Connor Roberts is back from suspension and Charlie Hawtin could return after being struck down by illness.
