OXFORD United have their fingers crossed for a dream result in the Carabao Cup quarter-final draw this morning.

But players, staff and supporters have different views over what would represent the best outcome at 8.45am after knocking Sunderland out on penalties.

It is 32 years since they have been in a last-eight draw, where they will be alongside six Premier League giants, plus Colchester United.

Liverpool, Aston Villa and Manchester United went through last night to complete the line-up.

While some want the guarantee of a big away day, which would also net a big financial windfall, there is another viewpoint.

If United got Colchester, who are in Sky Bet League Two, they would be favourites to progress to the two-legged semi-finals, where the rewards are even bigger.

Goalkeeper Simon Eastwood, who saved from Marc McNulty in the shoot-out to secure the U’s progress, said: “You don’t want too many games away from the league, I always say we want to concentrate on that.

“I think everybody wants a big team, but I suppose you could flip it and we’re into the quarter-finals, so we’re not far away (from the final).

“Maybe if we did get Colchester we’d have a good chance of going through.”

A home game with the Essex club was the clear winner with supporters in a poll on the Oxford Mail website yesterday and it is also the choice of head coach Karl Robinson, who was last night at Anfield as a Liverpool fan to see their shoot-out win over Arsenal.

“I want the League Two team,” he said. “Let’s see what happens in the draw.”

Rob Hall scored for United in normal time against the Black Cats – his first goal in almost two years due to injury problems.

And after feeling the benefits of a sold-out Kassam in midweek, the winger would love to be on home turf again.

He said: “This place was rocking and it helps us massively.

“The fans carry you through, so I’d like anyone at home.”
