THAME United booked their place in the Buildbase FA Trophy first qualifying round after another goal-filled clash with Winchester City.

Mark West’s side ran out 5-3 winners, a week after the original tie finished 3-3.

Thame quickly seized control and were 2-0 up by the 12th minute thanks to Dan West and Jamie Essex goals.

Jamie Barron pulled one back, but Greg Hackett and Tom Ashworth struck within four minutes to make it 4-1 at the break.

Barron struck again seconds after the restart to keep the tie alive.

But Hackett completed his brace 13 minutes from time to finally put the game to bed despite Rob Carr’s late consolation.

Thame’s reward is a home tie on Saturday against Frome Town, of the BetVictor Southern League South Division.

  • BANBURY United missed out on the chance to go top of the Bet Victor Southern League Premier Central standings as they lost 2-1 at AFC Rushden & Diamonds.

Janaai Gordon equalised in the first half, but the visitors’ chances were dented when they had Connor Roberts sent off late on.

The teams meet again at Hayden Road on Saturday, in the Trophy.
