Eddie Pepperell finished on one-under-par after his opening round of the Italian Open.

The Abingdon golfer, who began at the tenth, got off to a poor start in Rome after dropping two shots in his opening five holes.

However, he hit back with two birdies to reach the turn on level par.

Pepperell moved to one-under with a birdie at his 12th, but slipped back to level with a dropped shot two holes later.

However, he picked up a shot on his 18th to birdie all three par-fives.
