WITNEY made light work of High Wycombe as they returned to the top of Southern Counties North with an impressive 31-3 home victory.

The visitors arrived with a 100 per cent record, but were swept aside as the Oxfordshire club ran in five tries for a bonus-point win.

They set the tone after five minutes when Rhys Morgan went over for an unconverted try.

High Wycombe hit back with a penalty, but Morgan stretched the lead midway through the half when he touched down for a second time, Aaron Lambourne converting to make it 12-3 at the break.

Witney remained on top for the rest of the half, but were unable to add to their tally before the break.

The visitors began the second half strongly but a yellow card cost them and Lambourne went over for an unconverted score.

A sin bin for Witney’s Ryan Harris relieved the pressure on Wycombe, but late tries by Rob Coe and Jack Birks, both converted by Lambourne, sealed a comfortable win.

They leapfrogged former table-toppers Marlow, who were beaten 40-18 at Wallingford.

Meanwhile, Bicester claimed their first win of the season with a 34-22 home victory over Chesham.

But Didcot could not make it a clean sweep for the Oxfordshire sides, losing 81-7 at Aylesbury.

Guy Nicholl scored four tries as Grove maintained their perfect start in Southern Counties South, beating Walcot 49-10 at home.

The hosts went behind to an early unconverted try, but scores from Steve Dixey, Mark Roberts and two from Nicholl, all unconverted, made it 20-5 at the break.

Nicholl added two more in the second half, while Roberts and Dixey both went over again, with Ollie Nicholl touching down and adding two conversions.

Gosford All Blacks lead the Berks, Bucks & Oxon Premier after winning 45-19 at Tadley.

They replace Chipping Norton at the summit, despite the Oxfordshire side beating Bletchley 13-11 on the road.

Oxford thrashed Littlemore 62-5, while Abingdon are up to third after beating Drifters 41-10 at home.

Wheatley were held to a 25-25 draw at home to Milton Keynes.
