JOSH Ruffels said the message in Oxford United’s post-match huddle on Saturday was clear – keep going.

The players got together on the pitch after the final whistle confirmed a 3-0 victory over Gillingham.

It was their fourth win in a five-game unbeaten run, but they are in no mood to stop there.

Ruffels said: “It was just to recap the couple of weeks we’ve had and how well we’ve done.

“Don’t get too high, keep going and building on it.”

He added: “I hope it carries on for as long as possible.

“If we keep it tight at the back, the forwards we’ve got are frightening – the midfielders as well.

“We’re all gelling and it’s good to see.

“It’s been a great time and a pleasure to play in.”

Ruffels was among four players in the XI against Gillingham who had also started the 4-0 win over West Ham in front of more than 10,000 fans at the Kassam Stadium on Wednesday night.

And the left back was thrilled they were able to avoid a sense of anti-climax.

He said: “I think we’re all professional enough to know the stadium wasn’t going to be as lively as Wednesday, so we had to build the atmosphere.

“I think the way we attacked in the first half set the tone.

“We had to dig in a bit in the second half, but we managed the game really well.”
