THAME United boss Mark West is guarding against any complacency when they entertain Wantage Town in Division 1 Central of the BetVictor Southern League tomorrow.

Their visitors have suffered back-to-back 7-0 drubbings against Berkhamsted and AFC Dunstable this week.

Thame recorded their first win of the season on Saturday, but West knows tomorrow’s opponents will be looking to put things right.

West said: “We were good at Welwyn Garden City and got a deserved win last week, but we haven’t been pulling up trees this year.

“We need to put a run together and get some points on the board, and a derby against Wantage means we will need to put in the same effort as we did last week.”

He added: “Wantage have had a tough start for sure, but that doesn’t make it easier for us.

“Their management and players will be looking for a response, and so we must make sure we are on it.”

Ryan Blake, a winger who joined from Chesham, is in line for his home debut, while Ben Sturgess returns from holiday.

Lynton Goss, Harry Mepham and Noah Alabi remain sidelined through injury.

Wantage joint manager Matt Biddle said: “It’s been a tough week for sure, and results have been very poor indeed.

“We are in the process of adding more quality to the squad, but that’s not a quick process.”

Reading Academy player Matthew Newbrook comes into the squad.

Biddle added: “The squad is almost a completely new look now, but it’s a case of if at first you don’t succeed, you try and try again.

“Thame will be a tough test, but we will continue to fight and try and get the result we are after.”

Didcot Town travel to high-flying Berkhamsted full of confidence

after their win against St Neots.

The 2-1 victory moved the Railwaymen up to 12th place, but they face a side boasting a 100 per cent home record so far this season.

Manager Jamie Heapy said: “We’re really looking forward to the game, although Berkhamsted are flying at the moment.

“We will go into the game as underdogs, with nothing to lose, so the pressure is all on them.”

Ollie Thomas and Mark Bell both return after missing last week, but Connor Mattimore is unavailable.

Joe Green (ankle) is a doubt.

Banbury United are without a game in Premier Central.
