AHEAD of each of United's Sky Bet League One games this season, we are looking back at memorable matches against their next opponents.

April 5, 2003: Lincoln City 0, Oxford United 1

IAN Atkins called on his Oxford United players to follow their battling 1-0 win at Lincoln City by improving their ‘abysmal’ home form.

The victory saw the U’s climb back into the Division Three play-off places, thanks to Andy Scott’s fourth-minute goal and some resilient defending.

It was United’s 13th away triumph of the campaign in all competitions and manager Atkins said his squad must back up their performances on the road at the Kassam Stadium.

He said: “We showed great spirit and we’ve got to show more bottle and more responsibility at home.

“Even if the fans give them some stick, they’ve got to be mentally strong enough to deal with it and still show composure.

“Our home results are basically abysmal. Today, the players showed their true grit and determination.”

After Scott put the U’s ahead with a superb strike, it was all hands to the pump for the visitors.

United’s defence dealt expertly with an onslaught of corners and long throws towards Lincoln’s 6ft 7in centre back Ben Futcher.

The away side were forced to man the barricades for most of a game where the ball spent plenty of time in the air, but Scott’s strike was enough to end a run of five games without a win.

Oxford Utd: Woodman, McNiven, McCarthy, Crosby, Waterman, Robinson, Ford (Hunter), Savage, Bound, Foley (Louis), Scott. Unused subs: Powell, Whitehead, Omoyinmi.
