TARIQE Fosu felt the benefit of a blank week as his fresh legs ran riot for Oxford United.

The winger has been hampered by a hamstring issue, but made the most of the extra recovery time to play a key role in the 3-0 win over Tranmere Rovers.

He sprinted to win a penalty in the first half, before providing another assist as Cameron Brannagan doubled the lead.

Fosu said: “It’s been a bit frustrating with my hamstring just getting it right.

“It’s a tricky one. I’ve got pace so when I can’t push myself it’s a bit frustrating.

“But I felt very good again, so I’ve just got to keep going.

“I think a blank week probably helped me a lot.

“We had a good week training and we’ve managed it right, so I’ve just got to keep going.”

Although United did not hit top gear, they worked hard to make life difficult for Tranmere.

At one stage Fosu tracked back into his own penalty area to deny winger Rushian Hepburn-Murphy a crossing chance.

It earned a high five from centre back John Mousinho and summed up the home side’s committed afternoon.

Fosu said: “We’ve worked on it all week with the gaffer.

“He’s been on all of us wingers to get back and help the team.

“I think we’ve been very good in possession (this season) but have struggled without the ball.

“I think we got it right here and we’ve just got to continue that.”
