ANDY Benwell secured the Oxford Carp League championship after the final round on Top Pool, Tunnel Barn Farm.

The Kidlington angler finished third on the day, but did enough to see off Steve Cantwell by three points.

Craig Partridge, also from Kidlington, triumphed in the 12th round with a winning weight of 71lb 8oz 0drm fishing pellets into open water shallow, then later maggots on a top kit.

Harwell’s Cantwell (66.4.0) was second, with Benwell (56.10.0) third in a 17-strong field.

Final standings: 1 A Benwell 21pts, 2 S Cantwell 24, 3 G Foley 30.

Jamie Godfrey triumphed in the first round of Yarnton & District AC’s Winter League at Boddington Reservoir.

He netted 14 carp with pellet on the bomb for a winning weight of 131.7.0.

Nick Paxton (107.0.0) was second with 12 carp on similar tactics, with Nick Collier completing the podium with eight carp for 73.15.0

Alan Bond came out on top when Beehive AC fished in perfect conditions on Lodge Farm Fritwell.

His haul of 144lb carp to pole and pellet was enough to see off Ross Keetley’s 83.10.0 of carp to pole and maggot.

Richard Mott was third with 70.7.0 carp to pole and corn.

Bradley Gibbons won the annual Thames festival, fished over three days by 78 anglers on the river at Abingdon, Culham and Appleford.
