ALLEGATIONS of racism towards a Didcot Town player is being investigated.

Caelan Isaac tweeted his disgust at comments made to him on Saturday when Didcot Town Development played Risborough Rangers in their Uhlsport Hellenic League Division 1 East clash.

The 19-year-old said it was the third time he had been the victim of such abuse.

The incident is being looked at by the Berks & Bucks Football Association, with whom both teams are affiliated.

The Oxfordshire FA revealed they are also working alongside the investigation.

Isaac tweeted: “Today whilst playing away at Risborough I was racially abused by the fans.

“I’m 19 and this is the third time I’ve been a victim of racial abuse.”

Alastair Kay, the governance manager at the Berks & Bucks FA, said: "An alleged incident of discrimination towards a player has been reported to us and we will now investigate fully working alongside the FA as is standard procedure in discrimination cases.

"As an open and ongoing investigation we cannot comment on details of individual cases.

“We take all cases of abuse and discrimination very seriously and stress that there is no place for this type of behaviour in the game.

"We would encourage anyone who is victim of, or witness to, discrimination in football to report this via the appropriate channels.”

Ian Mason, chief executive of the Oxfordshire FA, added: "Our tweet was in response to other stories posted where we were referenced as the county FA for the teams, and we just wanted to indicate that they were linked to another county FA.

"We like others feel there is no need or place for this sort of behaviour and certainly don’t condone it, either in football or in life in general.

"The FA have clear guidelines on procedures and punishments for allegations and incidents like this and, in respect of this incident, we know our colleagues will follow them.

"Also, and equally as important, the referee will receive support at this time and through the proceedings.

"The Oxfordshire FA have no further comment whilst the investigation proceeds."

A statement issued on the Risborough website last night said: “Risborough Rangers Football Club are aware of a report of discriminatory abuse towards an opposition player during yesterday's fixture against Didcot Town Development Football Club.

“The club has launched a full investigation into these allegations.

“We would appeal for anyone with information to contact the club chairman Richard Woodward at richardandjoy1971@btinternet.com as soon as possible.

“We are a community club and discrimination of any kind will not be tolerated.

“Anyone found to have taken part in any form of discriminatory activity will be banned from our club indefinitely.”

Didcot Town have not released an official statement, but tweeted their support to Mr Isaac, saying: “This is horrible. To see one of our players deal with this again for the 3rd time is disgusting and heartbreaking to hear. Hope this get sorted!!”
