MARK Robins was happy to take a point from Oxford United despite his Coventry City side leading 2-0 and 3-2.

The Sky Blues’ boss felt the two-goal lead “flattered” the visitors, but admitted he thought the three points were theirs when Callum O’Hare restored the lead in stoppage-time.

United though hit back, Fankaty Dabo scoring his second own goal in the 94th minute to see the game finish 3-3.

But just like his opposite number Karl Robinson, Robins urged his young side to learn from the mistakes.

He said: “I’m relieved with a point because I thought we were poor.

“Honestly, I thought we started off OK and were passing OK but they are a good side, make no mistake about it.

“The way they play can stretch you at times but we were our own worst enemy and we kept doing the same things and we have just got to learn.

“There are a lot of young players in our team that are naive to the game at the minute and once we learn from this it will be a big help, and I think this is the biggest game we can learn from from the ones we have played so far.”

He added: “I thought they (Oxford) were better and at 2-0 up I thought that flattered us a little bit. Having said that I think the two opening goals we scored were good goals.

“Even though they had quite a lot of the ball in our penalty area from wide areas, we managed to keep them at bay and dealt with the crosses pretty well until Fanky’s first own goal.”

United’s dominance earlier in the game helped them in the latter stages, with Robins admitting some of his players were struggling.

He said: “With the third goal we scored I honestly thought had won the game because it was late in the day and we had a little bit of momentum.

“I felt we had enough then, coupled with the changes to get enough legs in the team to see it out.

“And with five across the back it should give you that help but Jordan Shipley’s legs had buckled a little and we couldn’t do anything about that.

“Zain Westbrooke was the same and it’s the end of a really long month in terms of eight games played, the majority of them played by those lads.”
