BEN Woodburn will miss two Oxford United games next month after receiving a call-up to the Wales squad.

The Liverpool loanee, who has ten international caps, has been picked by Ryan Giggs for their matches in Cardiff.

Wales host Azerbaijan in a UEFA Euro 2020 qualifier on September 6, before facing Belarus in a friendly three days later.

It means Woodburn will miss Oxford United’s fixtures with Norwich City Under 21s in the Leasing.com Trophy and the Sky Bet League One trip to Fleetwood Town.

The 19-year-old said: “It’s an honour to get called up for your country.

“There are some outstanding players in my position so it’s tough to get in.”

Among those Woodburn is battling with for a place is Real Madrid star Gareth Bale.

The U’s loanee said: “He’s one of the greatest players in the world and what he’s done for the country is amazing.

“He’s unbelievable to watch and you learn so much playing with him.

“The way he kicks a ball, I’ve never seen anything like it.

“When we have played together he always helps me.”
