Adam Wootton says he is sad the season is now over after hitting form throughout the summer.

The 20-year-old Oxford City member has has had an impressive 2007, cutting his handicap from scratch to plus two with tournament victories including the BB&O Under 21 championship.

Most recently, Wootton finished fifth in the under 21 section of the Faldo Series Grand Final at Celtic Manor.

He said: "The season is finished for the year now, which is a shame.

"I've been playing well all summer.

"I won the southern region qualifier for the Faldo Series and the county under 21 title as well as cutting my handicap."

Wootton, who has always been a member at Southfield, is now looking to take his golf to the next level.

"I would like to turn pro, but I will play on the amateur circuit next year.

"I plan to enter tour qualifying next November."

Wootton is a carpenter for Beard Construction, which is based in Oxford and Swindon, having qualified a year ago.

He said: "I wanted to do that first and see how my golf went from there.

"That way I have an income to support me."

Wootton reached final qualifying for the Open in 2006 and a target for next year is to go one better.

For now though, it is mostly about practice.

  • Nathan Jones hit a hole-in-one en route to victory in North Oxford's Generation Foursomes.

Jones aced the par three fouth hole with a four iron.

  • Sue Gatt won the Oxfordshire Ladies County Golf Association's Bamberger Cup after a tight clash at Studley Wood.

The Oxfordshire member defeated Bicester's Mary Darling 3 & 2 following a birdie at the par-three 16th hole.

  • Studley Wood's Lauren Jupp has been awarded a bursary from the Angela Uzielli Bursary Trust to help develop her game.

The scheme supports promising girl golfers who are continuing their education at college or university in the British Isles.

Jupp, 17, plays off a handicap of four, and is studying for her A Levels at Bicester Community College.

She is also a member at Magnolia Park and last week played in the International Pairs final with clubmate Jason Kerrison.

The pair finished a creditable 15th in the male dominated event after rounds at Carnoustie and Burnside.
