Oxford City Stars had two reasons to celebrate after back-to-back victories in the space of 24 hours in the English National League Cup.

On Saturday, they fought back from 3-1 down to win 6-5 at Solihull Barons, before beating Milton Keynes Thunder 5-2 in a fiery encounter a day later.

Grant Bailey fired Stars ahead early on after good work by Sam Broughton and Lee Featherstone.

However, Stars were rocked when Rob Eley and Stephen Rowlands gave Barons, who boasted a 100 per cent home record, the lead.

And Stars suffered another blow when Sam Broughton was taken to hospital after a heavy hit.

James Feenan then made it 3-1 to the hosts.

Featherstone clawed one back, before Alan Green's rocket shot was deflected home by Lee Stobie for the equaliser.

Eley then scored a second, only for Kent Johnson to bring the sides level after Patrick Knightley had charged up the ice. But their celebrations had barely died down when Alex Jones restored Barons' advantage.

After Oxford's netminder James Skaife made some fine saves, Green again brought the sides level.

Will Skaife and Green were then sin-binned in quick succession for hooking and roughing respectively, leaving their three men against Barons' five.

But against the odds, Stars kept attacking and after another super stop from Skaife, Cox set up skipper Darren Elliott who flicked the puck over Solihull's netminder for the winner.

Sunday's game proved a far more stormy encounter, with Stars' former Milton Keynes players Featherstone and Mark Krater helping to sink their old teammates.

Bailey gave Stars a fourth-minute lead, before Oxford's defenceman Nick Eden and Elliott were sin-binned after a scuffle broke out near the Milton Keynes bench.

After Lewis Clifford equalised Thunder, took a 2-1 lead through Ivan Turan before Bailey was sin-binned.

Stars' Francis suffered the same fate as Bailey, before Featherstone equalised.

Krater was then taken to hospital with a split ear, with Green limping off with a hip injury.

Elliott gave Oxford the lead for the first time after Johnson weaved through the defence, before Jacob Smith bagged No 4.

Victory was sealed when Smith netted his second with a neat flick over the stranded netminder.
