Oxford United have received a big boost ahead of Saturday's FA Cup tie at Merthyr Tydfil with Ipswich Town agreeing to allow the U's to play on-loan striker Jordan Rhodes.

The 17-year-old has been impressive in his two starts for United, who are already without Gary Twigg, Rob Duffy, Marvin Robinson and Joel Ledgister for the fourth qualifying round tie in Wales.

Although on-loan QPR midfielder Stefan Bailey was eligible to play for Oxford in the FA Cup from the outset, the terms of Rhodes's loan agreement were different.

However, after a plea from the U's, the Ipswich Town boss and former Manor Ground star Jim Magilton has agreed to let the Barnsley-born striker play for his old club in the competition.
