GARY Kelsey emerged victorious in the seventh round of the Oxford Carp League.

The Didcot angler had the top rod out of the 18-strong field at Gearys Lake in the West Midlands.

Fishing from the high bank area and using the pellet tea bag and method feeder tactics towards the posts, he finished with 69lbs 6oz 0drms.

Gerry Foley (Kidlington) was the nearest challenger on 63.6.0, as he fished over pinged 8mm pellets.

Third place was taken by Dave “Hawkeye” Hawkins, who placed 48.4.0 of carp and skimmers on the scales, caught predominantly on pole and meat.

On the day: 1 G Kelsey 69.6.0 (1pt), 2 D Wilson 47.14.0 (1), 3 G Foley 66.6.0 (2).

League standings: 1 A Benwell 18pts, 2 D Wilson 24, 3 S Cantwell 28.

Tom Hobbs comfortably won round five of the Oxford Summer League.

Blustery conditions on the Thames at Clanfield meant it was mainly a small fish match.

But Hobbs, drawn in the middle and fishing pole at 14.5m with a 5grm flat float and worm on the hook over chop worm and caster feed, found a shoal of hungry chub which proved the difference.

He finished with 30.2.0, ahead of Drennan Oxford Aqua clubmate Steve Harwood (10.3.0) and Mark Harrington, of Rive A4 Black (7.11.0).

Team results: 1 Drennan Oxford Aqua 30pts, 2 Rive A4 Black 27, 3 Drennan Bordon 26.

League standings: 1 Drennan Oxford Aqua 145pts, 2 Drennan Bordon 136, 3 Rive A4 Black 134.

Pete Clarke was a cut above the rest in Littlemore AS’s Summer Cup.

Catching roach with hemp ant tares on the waggler on the Thames at Sandford, he reached 18.12.0.

Brian Hutchings opted for the same tactics and was second with 14.4.0, ahead of David Allsworth (13.10).
