Wallingford secured their first away win of the season in Southern Counties North with a 27-19 success at Beaconsfield.

Beaconsfield opened the scoring on three minutes when their scrum half went over for the first of a try treble.

Wallingford lock Mike Turner and flanker Mike Chapman were both held up short of the line and fly half Pete Strang hit a post with a penalty in front of the posts.

The second half was much better for Wallingford, with winger Johnny Collett scoring wide out on 45 minutes.

And they took the lead ten minutes later when Strang slotted a penalty.

His topsy-turvy day continued when Beaconsfield's scrum half charged down his clearance kick to score a converted try.

Captain Kris Blaszko drove over for Wallingford's second try which Strang converted and Strang then linked with flanker Pete Holton, who outstripped the defence for try No 3.

Wallingford wrapped up victory with ten minutes left when replacement centre Henry Pooler set up full back Henry Venners to score, Strang converting.

Beaconsfield managed a third score, also converted, but Wallingford saw out the win.

Witney returned to winning ways with a hard-fought 15-5 victory over Aylesbury at Hailey Road.

Aylesbury began the brighter and no-one could stop their big second row powering over from ten yards out.

Witney came back into the game with some good kicking from fly half Henry Lamb and centre James Ellwood, the former slotting a penalty.

The rest of the half showed both teams getting into good positions, but with neither able to capitalise.

It was much the same after the break with locks Jez Hicks and Owen Fowler oustanding in their spade work.

A penalty looked likely to decide the match until wing Phil Gouldie chased Lamb's clearance kick and pressurised his opposite number.

Supporting flanker Carl Campbell off-loaded for Lamb to run in from halfway and convert.

No 8 Jimi Collis and scrum half Gareth Campbell, with a clever dummy, then set up a try for Gouldie to wrap it up.

Grove suffered their first loss with a 41-14 thumping at leaders Olney.

The visitors were much depleted and hardly touched the ball as Olney racked up an ominous 35-0 half-time lead.

However, Grove showed considerable spirit in the second half and fought back hard.

The home side scored first, but Grove grew in confidence and the pack started to get on top.

Despite losing three players - two through injury and one for a yellow card - the visitors showed great resilience in scoring two tries.

Jason Whyte and Nick Sevier went over, with the latter converting both.
