Oxford Harlequins bagged a 35-31 victory at Maidenhead in South West 1 - but they almost threw it away.

Quins led 25-5 and 35-12, but were left hanging on at the end.

They opened the scoring in the 11th minute when fly half Frank Jones slotted over a penalty.

Five minutes later, centre Andy Henley wrong-footed the home defence to send debutant blindside flanker Phil Rowe under the posts for a superb try, which Jones converted.

Maidenhead reduced the arrears when loose-head prop Ashley Riley was driven over.

Quins flanker Chris Alcock was next on target after good work from scrum half Anthony Cope and Jones, with the latter converting.

Hooker Dave Needham backed up well to score Quins' third try and Jones added a penalty before the break.

It was 25-12 on 56 minutes when Maidenhead scored through full back Warren Abraham, and fly half Mark Ruddick converted.

Two minutes later, Rowe bagged his second score after wing Tom Johnson opened up a gap.

Long passes from Jones, centre Beau Wilson and Henley set up Johnson to run in a fine individual try.

Abraham scored a try to make it 35-17 and a late brace from wing Stuart Mackay, both converted by Ruddick, made for a nervy finish.

Chinnor battled to a 21-18 win at Redingensians which keeps them level with leaders Bracknell.

The vistors had to make several late changes and lost centre Darren Oxley to a knee injury on 18 minutes.

Both sides went close, before Spike Chandler kicked a penalty for Redingensians.

Chinnor were quick out of the blocks at the resumption, moving the ball to the left wing where Pip Seymour chipped ahead to win the race for the touch down.

With back row forwards Andrew McGuire and Harry Jackman both going over the line, Chinnor scored three tries in the space of ten minutes.

Full back Ben Hewitt missed all three conversions, hitting the bar with two, while a try from Gary Reynolds, converted by Chandler, brought Redingensians back into the game.

Hewitt landed a penalty to make it 18-10 and then added a mammoth drop goal from 50 metres.

A Chandler penalty reduced the arrears, while Jez Flynn notched a try on the final whistle.
