A GLOUCESTERSHIRE club have the opportunity to vie for silverware in the Oxfordshire Cup, writes JACK JOHNSON.

Stow-on-the-Wold & District, who play in the seventh tier of English rugby, have been added to the competition for the 2019/20 season.

Oxford Harlequins will host the newcomers in the preliminary round over the weekend of November 2-3.

And Oxfordshire RFU president Jenny Bosley said Stow-on-the-Wold’s entry had the blessing of the county’s teams.

“They asked to come into the competition,” she explained.

“We went to all the clubs and said ‘do you mind?’, because obviously it’s quite a travel.

“But every team came back and said ‘great, we would like a trip there’.”

Wallingford are another addition to the competition.

They have not played in the Oxfordshire Cup for four years, but will begin their campaign against Henley Bulls.

Bosley added: “Wallingford were approached and they wanted to come back in.”

The Oxfordshire Shield draw has also been made, but does not feature representative side Blue Boar, who are unable to field a team for this season’s competition.
