MATT Herbert claimed victory in the third round of the Oxford Summer League on the River Thames at Dorchester and Benson.

He also helped his team Drennan Bordon win the team prize, beating Drennan Oxford Aqua by a point.

But it is a case of roles reversed in the overall league standings as Aqua hold an 11-point advantage.

Herbert drew the top end peg at Benson, catching bream and skimmers on worm over groundbait on the pole for a winning weight of 19lb 12oz 0drms.

Sensas A4 Green’s Alan Durnford secured second with 11.2.0, while Drennan Oxford Blue’s Ian Young was third with 10.6.0.

Elsewhere, Paul Dann finished well clear of the field when winning the fifth round of the Oxford Carp League at Barston Lake, West Midlands.

The Didcot angler, fishing the pellet waggler from the end peg, weighed in an impressive 139.4.0 Ken Palmer, of Panshill Wood, was second with 91.10.0, while Benson’s Jez Reid took third place with 85.6.0.

Andy Benwell still leads the overall standings, but Steve Cantwell has closed the gap to a point.
