Yate Town 2 (Vahid 50, Williams 72)

Didcot Town 1 (King 58)

DIDCOT were rueing their luck after bowing out with a spirited display at Southern League FA Trophy Premier Divsion outfit Yate on Saturday.

After two abject defeats in the previous week, Didcot started as underdogs. But, for large periods, the visitors dominated and created a number of good chances.

The first of these came in the second minute when Michael Bartley's cross-shot was well held by Yate keeper Tony Court.

In Didcot's next attack, a super pass from Richard Witt found Ashley Vine and Jack King fired his headed knock-down wide. The home side's first shot was also from long-range when Matt Rawlins shot high over the bar.

Jack King brought a fine diving save from Court with a firmly struck free-kick, while at the other end Yate substitute Adam Sims shot wide from close range.

Three minutes before the break, Didcot's Ashley Vine only had the keeper to beat, but somehow spooned his shot over It looked to be a costly miss early in the second half when Yate's Ed Vahid cut inside his marker and finished well past Michael Watkins.

Yate should have made it 2-0 in their next attack, but from point-blank range Ashley Williams somehow headed the ball into the ground and over the bar from David Anyinsah's cross.

From that moment, Didcot took control, and while there was a huge slice of luck surrounding the equaliser in the 55th minute, it was no less than they deserved.

There seemed no danger when Court came to collect the ball on the edge of his box, but it bounced off him and into the path of King, who simply placed the ball into an unguarded net.

A Bartley shot from 25 yards tested Court before the home side re-took the lead following a quick counter-attack through Williams.

The last 20 minutes saw Didcot almost camped in the Yate half. King had two shots saved, Josh Mulvany saw a volley blocked and another chance was cleared off the line.

In injury time, Vine's far-post header was somehow kept out by a combination of Court and Lee Jefferies.
