Oxford United are out to put the record straight at home to Woking this afternoon.

The Cards kept two clean sheets against the U's last season with a goalless draw at the Kassam Stadium, in front of a record 11,000-plus Conference crowd, and then a shock 1-0 victory at Kingfield.

But boss Jim Smith said both games could easily have been cricket scores, and he's hoping the U's can find their way to the net this time to follow up their morale-boosting victory at Farsley Celtic.

"In both games against Woking last season we should have got loads of goals," he said. "We should have won about 8-0 at home and 9-0 away, and didn't.

"Those two games highlighted our season. They were up there with the worst, in terms of the way we battered them both times, but missed so many goals.

"Having said that, in the first one they had the Iranian kid (Schwan Jalal), who's now at Peterborough and had been released by Sheffield Wednesday just to play against us - and he saved everything.

"But that's what we've been saying all along, nobody beats us, we beat ourselves and on Saturday, I'm sure we'll create enough chances . . . hopefully, we'll stick 'em away."

Loan signings Jordan Rhodes and Stefan Bailey are set to make their full home debuts, with Barry Quinn taking over at centre half from the injured Phil Gilchrist.

Smith may again go with the 4-3-3 formation he started with at Farsley.

Danny Rose, who played as the left-sided forward alongside Rhodes and Yemi Odubade, spent a long time practising his finishing after the rest of the players had left training this week.

The workrate teenager Rhodes put in at Farsley is a shining example to other young players, Smith believes.

"Rhodes did very well for a very young boy," he said. "He led the line well and worked tremendously hard.

"It was a really good example of what Ipswich Town Football Club's about.

"Our young players should look at that 17-year-old and see how much he puts into a game - and that's what you've got to do to be playing at that level."

Oxford, in 11th position, are six places above Woking, and seven points off the play-off positions. But their home form hasn't been bad.

United's manager said: "We've lost one at home and we've drawn badly - when we were 3-0 up - but overall at home we've played good football and should have won all the games, but that hasn't happened.

"We need to improve on certain aspects from the Torquay game and then we won't have any problem whatsoever."
