Banbury's debut in the Oxfordshire Indoor Competition on was a huge success as they posted two victories in the opening round of matches at Blackbird Leys Leisure Centre.

The competition, which has been revived after a two-year absence, saw some high quality cricket, but it was Banbury who took the plaudits.

They eased to a 42-run victory over Oxford, before seeing off Bicester & North Oxford by 18 runs.

Batting first against Oxford, Banbury appeared set to score over three figures, with Luke Ryan (26) looking in good form.

Banbury were finally bowled out for 94 with three balls left. But in reply, Oxford never got close as they slumped to 52 all out, thanks to excellent Banbury fielding including four run outs.

In their other game, Banbury looked in trouble as they lost two early wickets against Bicester & North Oxford.

However, a last-wicket stand of 28 helped them up to 76 all out, Ed Smith top-scoring with 20.

In reply, Bicester could not keep up with the run rate as they were bowled out for only 58, despite a 22-run last-wicket stand between Ian Bryan and Paul Jeacock.

Bicester also lost out to Oxford in the third game of the evening.

A fine knock of 24 from Steve West saw Bicester set 66, but Oxford's reply was built around a third-wicket stand of 30 between and Adam Cook and John Williams as they got home by two wickets.
