Didcot Phoenix Cycling Club’s Henry Latimer, Richard Gildea and Harri James took bronze at the National Team Time Trial Championships in Cheshire.
The trio covered the 30-mile course in 1hr 1min 50secs to come behind the sponsored race teams of Team Ribble and Team Bottrill.
They secured third place by the tightest of margins, finishing just a second ahead of Nuun-Sigma Sport to claim bronze.
The trio warmed up for the event with a recent success at a competition in Weston-on-the-Green and they were the top three riders in the club’s ten-mile championships a little over a week ago.
But to put it all together in a national event is no mean feat, with club president Anthony Atkin describing their third place as an ‘extraordinary performance’.
All three riders began time-trialling at Didcot through the club’s friendly Thursday night races.
Latimer started as a junior before being scouted by sponsors and has only returned to his home club this year, keen to encourage more riders into racing.
Gildea, who became a father only a few months ago, won a bronze medal in the national 12-hour time trial championships last year and regularly earns podium places at hill climb competitions.
James, originally from Wales, is more of a cyclo-cross rider, but has scooped victories in time trialling.
Didcot Phoenix are based in Boundary Park Pavilion in Didcot and have room for new members.
