CHRIS Short will stay as Oxford United's head of physical performance next season.

The 49-year-old was hailed as a "big coup" for the club when he joined from Blackpool in November.

Short, whose sports science career has included spells with Crystal Palace and Leicester City, made a big impact.

But with his family based in York, there were concerns he would depart this summer at the end of his contract.

Head coach Karl Robinson was keen to keep him on and has now confirmed an agreement has been reached.

He told the club's website: “Shorty has signed for next year as well which is great news.

“He got so many great messages back when he put it in the group chat and it’s fantastic that he will be with us again because he is really important to us.

"I am really excited and really looking forward to it now.“
